Over the course of 30 days I have been working on a series of paintings for my independent project. I painted 3 images of random people with different emotions; to do this I used acrylic paint and canvas. The three emotions I chose were sadness, anger, and happiness. It was a long process but for each painting I did a rough sketch then lightly painted a wash over my sketch and finally began painting with the acrylic. I chose to paint emotions because it can be hard for people to express their own emotions, so by putting it into art form it becomes another way to express it. While creating these paintings I ran into a little trouble with the undertones in the skin color, it was hard to get them to match the reference photo but in the end I was able to get it relatively close to the original image. I also had trouble with the proportions of each painting so it took a while to sketch out each face. Originally I had hoped to end up with four paintings but each painting I did took around 10 days so unfortunately I wasn’t able to finish with four. I don’t think that only having three paintings took away from the message that I was trying to convey. I think that throughout the process of painting I learnt a lot and I found that as I moved to the next painting it progressively got easier. If I could do this project again I definitely would, I had a lot of fun creating these paintings and I think that it definitely helped me to gain new skills with the art that I love to do.
